A wall can add character to a room without a strong pattern or a completely new colour scheme. Porter’s interior Lime Wash creates soft shifts in tone, giving the surface a cloud-like appearance and a sense of depth.
If you want that effect in your Sydney home, start with the room and the amount of movement you prefer. A quiet backdrop behind a bed can call for a different approach from a statement wall in a living room. Agree the colour, sample and wall preparation together before the finish is applied.
Porter’s Interno Lime Wash is a lime-based decorative coating for interiors. As the finish develops, the lime creates tonal variation across the surface. Brush application contributes to the movement, so the finished wall has a handcrafted appearance.
The effect can be described as softly weathered or cloudy, depending on the colour and application. It adds visual texture; the amount of physical texture also depends on the wall underneath. A sample helps establish the character you want before committing to a whole room.

A feature wall can introduce the effect while keeping the rest of the room simple. Consider the wall behind a bed, a living room backdrop or a defined dining area. Look at the furniture and openings before choosing where the decorative finish will begin and end.
For a complete room, think about how the walls meet the ceiling, doors and trim. Keeping the surrounding finishes coordinated can let the movement in the walls become the main feature. Include recesses and returns when discussing the scope so the finished boundaries are clear.
Bring photographs of the room as well as reference images. A reference can communicate the mood you like, while photographs of your own space help the painter understand the light, access and existing finishes.
Two customers asking for a lime wash wall may want very different results. One may prefer barely visible variation; another may want expressive brush movement and stronger changes in tone. Describe the effect as well as naming a colour.
Use samples to discuss those preferences. Place a representative dry sample near the floor, curtains and furniture, and view it in daylight and under the room’s evening lighting. Ask whether the sample shows the proposed protective finish too, if one is being considered.
Porter’s guidance notes that Interno can look lighter when dry than its colour card suggests, and that the wall and drying conditions influence the bloom. Keep the agreed sample as a reference for the project while allowing for the natural variation of a handcrafted application.
An attractive effect starts with assessing the existing wall. Loose paint, holes, cracks and old patches need attention before the decorative application. Tell your painter about recent repairs or surfaces that have previously been painted in different products.
Interno’s technical guidance highlights variations in surface porosity as a cause of visible marks. The preparation and undercoat should therefore be specified for the wall, including repaired areas. Ask the quote to describe that work separately from the decorative finish.
This is useful when comparing prices. A sound wall that is ready for the specified preparation is a different job from a wall needing extensive repair. The number of square metres alone does not explain the difference.
Porter’s Lime Wash and French Wash both offer colour movement, but they use different systems. Interno creates its effect through the lime-based coating and brush application. French Wash is applied over Porter’s Low Sheen Acrylic and worked to produce a layered, broken-colour effect that can look marble-like.
Compare actual samples if you like both. Discuss whether you want a gently clouded backdrop or a more layered decorative result, and consider how either finish will sit beside the rest of your home.

Sky Painting & Decorating completed a Porter’s Paints lime wash feature wall project in Mona Vale. The project photograph gives you a real example of our decorative work and a starting point for discussing the movement and appearance you prefer.
Your own room’s colour, light and wall condition will guide its specification. We use the project as an example of the effect, then discuss the finish that suits your space.

Think about how the wall will be used. A backdrop behind a bed and an entrance wall that is frequently touched have different practical demands. Tell the painter whether regular wiping is important before deciding on the complete system.
Porter’s lists Matt Wall Sealer as an optional protective finish for Interno to create a wipeable surface. Confirm the proposed system and review a sample before choosing it. Ask for care instructions and a plan for handling future marks or repairs.
A useful quote should define the surfaces, base preparation and decorative finish. Sample preparation, protection of floors and furniture, access and any agreed protective coating should also be clear.
To start the discussion, send:
You do not need to select the final colour before getting in touch. A clear description of the space and the effect you want makes the inspection and quotation more useful.
Interno can be applied to suitable, properly prepared plasterboard and previously painted surfaces. The existing coating and any repairs need assessment so the correct preparation can be included.
Porter’s Interno technical guidance does not recommend it for kitchens, bathrooms or wet areas. Discuss an appropriate alternative for those rooms while using the lime wash effect in suitable living or bedroom spaces.
Local repairs can be visible in a decorative pattern. Interno’s application guidance notes that retouching the final coat can leave a distinct mark. Discuss the repair approach and care requirements before the work begins.
